Louhintahiekka involved in building the Kemi bioproduct factory

Louhintahiekka Oy has signed an agreement with Metsä Fiber, part of the Metsä Group, for the implementation of causticisation of the Kemi bioproduct factory and a local casting contract for a lime kiln.

September 2021

The Kemi bioproduct factory is the largest investment in the history of the forest industry, valued at approximately EUR 1.6 billion. It will become the most efficient wood processing plant in the northern hemisphere. The contract includes a lot of demanding concrete structures and coordination with other actors in the project. The project includes a total of 18,000 m3 of concrete and about 2 million kilograms of steel.

We have started the groundwork for the project and the reinforcement and formwork for the first in-situ casting structures, in September it will be the turn of the in-situ casting work for the tank structures. The project emphasizes the professionalism of the Louhintahiekka project organization, as a result of which the project is a continuation of the well-started cooperation with BemaPro Oy. Together, we carried out boiler and LTO on-site casting work for Helen Oy's Vuosaari biopower plant, and from there we have headed our organization towards a major project in the North!

With a large project, the importance of safety is emphasized. Mining personnel have been among the first to be awarded the RALA safety certificate, which indicates the personnel's commitment to common safety guidelines and rules. We set out to implement our own contribution to the big project with a good team spirit!

“We want the best professionals and experts in their field to partner to build a modern bioproduct factory in Kemi. We require our partners to commit to project goals in terms of safety, schedule and quality. Louhintahiekka Oy operates in accordance with these principles, ”says Jari-Pekka Johansson, Director of the Bioproduct Factory Project, from Metsä Fiber.
