Renovation of dam structures at Inkeroinen hydro power plant

Louhintahiekka completed the major renovation project of the dam structures at the Inkeroinen hydro power plant ahead of schedule.

The Inkeroinen hydroelectric power plant, located on the Kymijoki River in Eastern Finland, was completed in 1922 and has a capacity of 17 MW. The Finnish Heritage Agency has protected the power plant area as culturally and historically significant.

The goal of the dam renovation was to ensure the dam safety of the 100-year-old hydroelectric plant and to guarantee the use of the dam far into the future.

The project was highly challenging. The renovation included demanding drilling and hydro-demolition work. We restored the stone cladding of the dam structures, repaired the concrete dam structures, and improved the watertightness of the dam and rock formations.

The exposed structures discovered during the project and the pedestrian path running through the site increased the complexity of the project.

The collaboration between various stakeholders went smoothly, and we engaged in close dialogue with the Finnish Heritage Agency to consider the site's architectural heritage.

The work was completed ahead of schedule in December 2022.
