SRV and the Wellbeing Services County of Pirkanmaa have signed an agreement for the construction of a new building complex at Tampere University Hospital. The new M Hospital will accommodate emergency services, intensive care and operating theatres, imaging facilities, several inpatient wards and other hospital functions. The project also includes an extension to the existing F Building and the construction of a parking facility.

Louhintahiekka is responsible for virtually all earthworks across these projects, excluding surface works. The contract covers a wide range of excavation and foundation works, including complex ground support and foundation structures.

The works involve approximately 125,000 cubic metres of rock excavation and 195,000 cubic metres of earth excavation. The project also includes approximately 15 kilometres of bored piles, as well as watertight bored pile walls, sheet pile walls, grouting and anchoring works.

The excavation and foundation works will take place alongside a fully operational hospital, placing particularly stringent demands on vibration control, planning and scheduling.

“We will be able to draw extensively on our expertise in demanding foundation engineering. Rock excavation in an operational hospital environment, particularly under challenging vibration constraints, requires meticulous planning and execution. The scale and technical complexity of the project make this a significant contract for us in the Tampere region,” says Jani Pullikka, Project Director at Louhintahiekka.

Construction of the first sections of the M Hospital began in autumn 2026. Louhintahiekka's contract is scheduled for completion in December 2030, while the final phase of the overall hospital project is expected to be completed in 2032.
