Metsä Group is building a new Kerto LVL mill in Äänekoski, scheduled for completion in late 2026. Once completed, the mill will directly employ about 150 people. Louhintahiekka was responsible for the earthworks contract, valued at approximately EUR 15,7 million. The factory area covers roughly 50,000 square metres, making it a large-scale industrial construction project.
The contract included earthworks from preconstruction to load-bearing floors. In addition to water supply, wastewater and stormwater systems, we also implemented electrical and other infrastructure for the site. The project further included the entrance routes to the area as well as the earthworks for the factory building’s foundations.
– Louhintahiekka’s special expertise was particularly evident in handling large cutting and embankment masses, which required heavy equipment and precise project management under a tight schedule, says Project Manager Jani Pullikka.
– Coordinating the work of different contractors during critical phases was also challenging, but we performed well in both respects.
