City of Helsinki – Saukonkanava

When completed, the Saukonkanava canal in Jätkäsaari will provide a pleasant canal environment for local residents and boaters. In addition, new apartment buildings will be constructed in the immediate vicinity of the canal.

Louhintahiekka carried out the excavation of the canal, the bored piling and foundation anchoring, the construction of the retaining walls, and the building of the bridge across the canal.

According to Project Manager Aleksi Vipusaari, the project went smoothly, and he thanked the subcontractors for their excellent cooperation throughout the work. The project also included the installation of underwater elements, which required special expertise and were carried out by professional divers.

- Louhintahiekka’s experienced project management ensured that the different work phases and subcontractors were seamlessly coordinated and kept on schedule, despite the limited working space. In addition, the proximity of the sea and challenging weather conditions significally affected the site and had to be carefully considered, for example in the planning of lifting operations, says Vipusaari.
