City of Kirkkonummi – Kolabacken

Louhintahiekka carried out a demanding contract in the Kolabacken area of Kirkkonummi, constructing streets and municipal engineering for the future West 51 business village, Microsoft’s data center, and Fortum’s heating and cooling plant. The contract value was EUR 7.5 million.

The scope included the renewal of Sundsbergintie and the construction of new streets within the business plots (Energiarinne, Energiatie, Energiakuja and Sundsberg’s business road). In parallel, stormwater sewers, water mains, lighting and other municipal engineering systems were built. A key technical milestone was the installation of the water main by drilling under Ring Road III, the railway line and the river, one of the project’s most challenging phases.

The contract comprised several work stages requiring Louhintahiekka’s special expertise:

• excavation and mass replacement in the street area

• ground stabilization

•installation of municipal engineering systems

• planning and implementation of traffic arrangements

The site also required careful project management to coordinate the work and schedules of multiple stakeholders into a smooth whole. In addition to the streets and municipal engineering, new walking paths and green areas were built, and the lighting was renewed, improving the area’s comfort and safety.

The contract was completed mainly ahead of schedule, despite the challenging phases. Project Manager Jukka Jääskeläinen thanks local residents and stakeholders for their excellent cooperation, which enabled smooth delivery. Additional works agreed during the contract were completed in September.
