Louhintahiekka was responsible for the preparatory construction work of the Tampere tram depot, which included demanding rock blasting and crushing operations in the middle of a residential area.

The project was completed under an exceptionally tight schedule, which involved carrying out 250,000 m3 of rock blasting, along with the processing, crushing, and removal of the mass from the construction site within 9 months. Approximately 450,000 tons of rock were crushed.

Rock blasting in a residential area required special attention to minimising noise and vibration impacts to ensure the effects on the surrounding urban area were kept to a minimum.

The challenging working conditions and tight schedule required precise coordination between various parties and efficient use of resources.
