Louhintahiekka will carry out the earthworks for Kesko’s future logistics centre. More than half a million cubic metres of rock will be excavated on the site.

The future logistics centre will be located in the northern part of the Ilvesvuori industrial area in Nurmijärvi, east of the municipal centre, in the area bordered by Siippoontie, Hämeenlinnanväylä and Old Hämeenlinnantie.

Louhintahiekka will execute the earthworks for the approximately 20-hectare area included in the first phase. The project involves excavating more than 500,000 cubic metres of rock and moving over 400,000 cubic metres of soil.

Stormwater basins and drainage ditches have already been constructed in the area to ensure controlled treatment of construction site water in accordance with environmental requirements.

- Preparing a site that mainly consists of bedrock for construction requires exceptionally extensive excavation work, says Jani Pullikka, Project Manager responsible for the Louhintahiekka contract.

- Significant elevation differences on the site require major mass transfers, but a large portion of the excavated rock material can be utilised in the site levelling works. Large-scale earthworks and excavation contracts like this are our core expertise, Pullikka continues.

The total building right for the plot is 360,000 square metres. In the first phase, a two-storey food logistics centre with a floor area of approximately 48,000 square metres will be constructed.

Louhintahiekka’s excavation contract is scheduled for completion in March 2028. Haahtela is acting as the project management consultant and main contractor for the project. The estimated completion date for the logistics centre is 2029, with commissioning taking place during 2029–2030.
